Real Lemon Sour
The true lemon sour liqueur, “Real Lemon Sour,” created by turning OPEN BOOK’s signature lemon sour into a bottle.
Just add soda, and you can enjoy OPEN BOOK’s lemon sour at home.
(And maybe something even better.)
Flavor & How to Enjoy
-
We layer the rich aroma of brown sugar shochu with the acidity and gentle bitterness of lemon, then round it out with our original syrup. This is a lemon sour that goes beyond simple sweet-and-sour flavors, letting you enjoy the aroma of the spirit and its lingering finish.
-
As a starting point, mix 1 part Real Lemon Sour with 3–4 parts soda.
-
Pour over ice and garnish with a slice of lemon to recreate the OPEN BOOK lemon sour experience. Of course, adjust the strength to your liking.
-
You can also enjoy it straight on the rocks, almost like a limoncello, for a crisp, concentrated sip. And when it’s cold outside, we recommend trying it with hot water for a hot lemon sour.
-
Approximate servings per bottle: 10–12 glasses
-
Storage: We recommend refrigerating after opening. Basically, it doesn’t spoil easily, and there is no expiration date.
-
ABV: 30%
Shipping: Orders are normally shipped within 2–3 business days. Delivery to remote islands and some other areas may take a little longer.
The Story Behind This Drink
Everything is carefully handmade, with no preservatives, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, or artificial coloring.
With the cooperation of Tomita Shuzojo, the brewery behind the base recipe for OPEN BOOK, we spend a full week making this in Amami Oshima.
Around 400 kg of lemons are peeled by hand and infused into a specially blended shochu made just for this product. We then combine it with OPEN BOOK’s original syrup.
Just add soda, and you can enjoy OPEN BOOK’s lemon sour at home.
(And maybe something even better.)
For the lemons, we use varieties such as Vieraflanca and Lisbon from Tatemichiya, located in Setoda, Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The varieties are blended according to the season.
Since we hand-peel roughly 400 kg of lemons, production gets pretty lively—with our staff and all kinds of helping hands joining in. It’s a surprisingly festive operation for something that starts with peeling lemons.
If you can, we highly recommend adding a slice of fresh lemon when serving.
And, of course, make it as strong—or as easygoing—as you like.
Spring & Autumn
Depending on when it is made, we offer two versions: Spring and Autumn.
The difference is the type of lemon used. The Autumn version uses green lemons from the beginning of the lemon season, while the Spring version uses ripe, yellow lemons at their peak.
Spring is the standard flavor we also serve at the OPEN BOOK bar.
Autumn is greener and fresher, with a lively, crisp character that comes from using young green lemons.
